Kitchen Tour: kitchen and laundry room small but perfectly formed - During a major renovation of this property in Central London terrace, kitchen designer Emily Rumble Devol Kitchens was called for plan kitchen and a convenient laundry room. With great attention to detail, she set about creating two rooms that feel spacious and quiet, which pack in plenty of space saving features.

"Our starting point is usually the devices. Once we know the customer's requirements, we can work from there, "says kitchen designer Emily Rumble. "So, in this case, the double furnace came first."

design Rumble original cuisine featured many drawers on each side of the ovens, but customers decided they did not need so many drawers and prefer the look of cupboards. So two extra-large single drawers now flank the ovens and contain all utensils owners need during cooking.

The Plan work is custom made from oak and first treated with Danish oil that gives a natural finish and does not change the appearance of wood.
LED ceiling lights are mounted under the cabinets to provide illumination of practical task, while elegant lamps suspended above add character to the space.

the high ceiling allowed for high cupboards, which the designer halved. "If I had done the cabinets with one door each, there would have been too much movement when they were open," she says. "They should also look too stretched."

cabinets on either side of the office are deliberately designed not to reach the ceiling. "It's nice to have a space above," says Rumble. "It gives the room a spacious feel, and shows off the units as a unit."

unit on the right contains a fridge with freezer; customers realized they did not need a big freezer and an ice box would be great for them. To the left of it is a classic pantry with drawers, a shelf and a convenient rack, non-porous marble shelf inside.

the sink in the farm stands between an integrated dishwasher and a bin cupboard of equal size. The double sink 80cm was the perfect size to fit the space and helps to create symmetry. Indeed, every element of the kitchen is symmetrical, including larder units and fridge and the oven area.
"We use this idea of symmetrical design in most kitchens, but it works particularly well in a small space," says Rumble. "The room could feel crowded and busy, but keeping a balanced and simple design, it looks less confusing."

Behind the sink is a marble insert tap. "With wooden worktops, we always recommend a valve insert," says the designer. "You often do not see what happens in the taps until it is too late. If there is a leak, the marble stop water infiltration through and ruin the wood surface. "

originally, this side of the kitchen was open shelves go across the street, but customers liked the idea of glass cabinets to display items without dust collector. Rumble left a shelving section open over the sink, so it did not feel claustrophobic.

the client had already chosen the coral color scheme in the dining room and I wanted something lighter in the kitchen. The units, painted in a pale green measure, coral beautifully complement and contrast well with the heat level of the kitchen in oak.

kitchen leads into the breakfast room, which has a large opening glass door to a balcony. The room has been designed as a relaxing space to enjoy the sun.

"J ' I had great fun designing the utility room, especially the integrated wall units because they contain lots of smart storage solutions, " says Rumble.
