"It is a very hot space," says Emily Rumble Devol, who designed the kitchen. "It's a small room, but the color really feel cozy and welcoming."

The wooden shutters are an intriguing original feature. They pull up to close the window, then fold behind the other. "They bring natural wood tones in space," says Rumble. "The wall and the cabinet color should match that."

"It is not a standard color for our kitchens, but the owners were torn between a soft gray and a dark blue and it seemed natural, between shade to go." The shelves open were built on each side of the fireplace. "We wanted to make a great feature," says Rumble. The shelves have been designed to be slightly greater than the cupboards race on the opposite side. "There is not much elsewhere drawers in the kitchen," says Rumble, "and there were not very clear space for trash, so we settled here, too."

This cabinet contains a race pantry in the center and a refrigerator and freezer on each side. "We have worked hard to build the storage extent here while keeping its discrete and uniform appearance," says Rumble. Using the same dark shade on the cabinets and walls helps them blend into their background and appear less visible.

To the side of the larder, a small section of work plan acts as a breakfast station. "We encourage people with cellars to use this little return for their toaster and cups and treat it as a tea and coffee area," says Rumble. "Here, the owners do not need a kettle because they have a boiling water tap. "
