Food Tour: A Pared-back, elegant room full of practical design - A large extension, filled with light provided the perfect blank canvas for this elegant home cooking. "The owners wanted something that was both functional and beautiful," says designer Richard Burke kitchen. After careful planning and intelligent design, the result is a contemporary take on a classic style that subtly enhances the room.

It was during the planning phase of two storey extension project of this family as the kitchen designer Richard Burke was brought. customers have asked if he could transform the hall, in a beautiful bright kitchen works well, and add an adjoining utility room.
"The Aga and unity of the island were two major requirements of the couple," says Burke. "So I designed the rest of the room around them, placing them as the central elements of the layout. "

Burke offset the larder and built in the fuser unit, which can be seen on the right of this image and provided a symmetrical arrangement around the Aga and the island. "it is a large room, so it was important that any equipped proportionately," says Burke. The symmetrical design makes everything feel balanced and calm.
"We wanted the attractive chimney above the Aga be a dominant feature," he adds, "and the central placement of the island draws the eye to it."

on the Big island of working side houses a set of cutting boards pull, one to four sections bin and dishwasher, as well as a double Belfast sink.
"The board storage to be cut is convenient, but it also adds some character," said Burke. "It is nice to warm the painted cabinets with a natural wood suspicion."
A glass wall, composed of French doors and large windows, providing masses of sunlight in space, while the skylight adds to the ambient brightness.
Burke chose a combination of neutral tones for the color scheme. The chairs and table legs were painted in the same color as the main cabinets to tie the two areas together. In the center, the island stands out in a summery blue

the fridge-freezer is sitting inside custom built housing, with cornicing that matches the rest of the kitchen. A walnut shelf above the refrigerator is ideal for storing cookbooks.
The door of the utility room is between the pantry and refrigerator. "We deliberated whether to exchange the door and the refrigerator on, so as to keep all the units together," says the designer. "But in a busy household, it was logical to leave a space in between. People can now access the pantry and refrigerator separately without disturbing each other."

The larder is a useful space with three drawers below a pullout shelf. Another shelf above provides plenty of space for packets of cereals and large bottles and a wine rack and door shelves add to the functionality of the cabinet. "I believe that offices should be both practical and beautiful," says Burke. "I like to be considered as a piece of furniture in their own right."

sandstone work plan was given a square edge along the back wall and beveled finish on the island. It adds character to the island and links with the molded skirting (photo below).
Tongue-and-groove paneling along the wall units gives the look of a dresser. the work plan continues on the wall with a backsplash to protect the wood. Behind the Aga are sober classic subway tile.

most units in this kitchen contain drawers instead of cupboards. "Drawers are a much better use of space as cabinets, as you can access the entire region." Burke says. "Often with cupboards, you only use the front and neglect of things stored in the rear."
Burke made the window seat from poplar wood and painted to match cabinetmaking. It provides a nice place to rest, and also hides the radiators.

Walnut is Featured in the kitchen, in drawers and cabinets, shelves and even on the floor. The engineered flooring, with a lacquered finish, contrasting beautifully with the light walls and woodwork.

of each the fireplace, Burke equipped glass cabinets with interior lighting. "The lights are beautiful when they light up the nuts inside," says he. He decided to wear it on the entire wall including smaller versions glass cabinets above the pantry. In the evening, illuminated closets offer a warm glow from one end of the room to the other.

simple cabinets on each side of the oven is a perfect place for spices, oils and other essential elements that you need for cooking. Burke has made full use of their tying extra shelves to interior doors.

This practice loading drawer consists of a tray that is located above a charging unit. "I generally find that customer needs are first, and the design of the recesses accordingly," said Burke.

laundry opens the way to the back door in the kitchen. a nut seat provides a place to take off shoes and covers a useful drawer.
The vinyl flooring is a practical alternative to tiles, and is extremely easy to clean.
