Food Tour: A Compact country style kitchen in Dublin - When a married couple recently bought their first home together, they were ready to make their own. The decor is dated, and the couple decided to renovate thoroughly before moving. A key element to get right was the kitchen. He had previously been a kitchen-dining room cramped and dull-looking and in desperate need of a makeover. They wanted something bright with a country feel would make the best use of limited space.

As the first home owners together, they did not have strong ideas about how food should look like, but they knew they wanted a stove. the large oak canopy shows the range and injects heat and scale in the room.

All cabinets are in frame and solid wood. They are painted haze of Neptune, with walls painted in dark fog. "We wanted to create a contrast between cabinets and walls, and customers loved these two shades," says Lenehan.
The Silestone worktop has drainage grooves carved into the side of the sink. A backsplash revolves around the work area, but the owners have chosen not to have a full backsplash to keep the beautiful open space.

owners chose a double Belfast sink to continue the country feel. There is a large grid above the plate, which serves as storage and decoration. The two cabinets on either side of the grid plate has a scalloped end panel, adding a nice decorative touch to the unit.

a large unit, full height at the other end of the kitchen - where the dining table used to be - contains a freezer fridge and pantry cabinet, which also houses the microwave. The lower shelves of the larder cabinet can be removed for ease of use.

The north American white oak covered brings warmth to the room and makes the range a real focal point. "Customers really liked the size of it," said Lenehan. "Although the kitchen is quite small, it really brings a sense of scale in the room."

a cabinet curve on the end of the cooking course units softens the regime: on entering the room from the back door, the eye is achieved with a smooth line, rather than a more severe corner . "He gives a beautiful, soft look to the end of the kitchen," says Lenehan.

50 downlighters watts were replaced with 5 watt LED warm light fittings in the ceiling and in the cabinets above the sink and the awning above the stove. LED strip lighting has also been placed on top of the cabinets above the sink to give a beautiful wash of light in the evening.
The floor is designed oak finish with a product called IsoGuard which gives it a nice bright color and is very easy to maintain. "You can just sand the wood and reapply IsoGuard" says Lenehan
